What we are?

This site is intended to be a community tool for all Michiganders and others to use in documenting and cataloguing their state and local governments. The wiki concept and tool provides an opportune tool for creating a site that contains all things related to Michigan government and politics at every level contributors can imagine. Over time, the wiki intends to provide a model that users can use to fill in or quickly retrieve information on how their local government is performing. Ultimately, the success of the project depends on you. The more people that contribute to it or use it the more successful it will be.

Who we are?

The Michigan Transparency Wiki is operated by the Michigan Accountability Project, a non-profit corporation founded under Michigan law. The Michigan Accountability Project is also in the process of starting a new investigative journalism website.

Michigan Transparency and the Michigan Accountability Project are non-partisan with the universal mission of increasing government transparency and citizen journalism. The information offered is intended to be as accurate as possible and the wiki method of peer review is one way of getting there in the long-run, but bear in mind the information is submitted by the community and needs such review.

The Problem of Spam, Your Account, and Your Privacy

We apologize, but it only took a short experiment of a few weeks to realize that once the internet robots found us we couldn't continue to have the system operate completely in the open. To protect against vandals and link spamming we simply must require you to create an account and log-in to make edits. As long we know who you are and you are not link spamming or violating the terms of use of this site, we'll protect your privacy to the maximum extent the law allows just as a reporter would a source.
